Dear Parents and Carers,
Arrangements During Red Weather Alert (Extreme Heat) - Thursday 25 June
Further to my previous communication regarding the red weather alert (extreme heat), I am writing to inform you that, following further review of the conditions and updated forecasts, the decision has been taken to close the school to all pupils on Thursday 25 June.
This decision has not been taken lightly. Despite the range of mitigation measures in place, temperatures across the school site have continued to rise to levels that make many areas extremely hot and unsuitable for safe and effective learning.
Our priority remains the health, safety and wellbeing of all pupils and staff. We believe that closing the school for one day is the most appropriate course of action in these exceptional circumstances.
Teachers will set work for pupils, which will be available via Microsoft Teams and/or Class Charts.
We encourage families to ensure that children remain safe during this period of extreme heat. In particular, please ensure that they:
Stay well hydrated
Use sun protection, including sun cream
Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day
Do not attempt to cool down in unsafe open water such as rivers or lakes
Further guidance on staying safe in hot weather, including water safety advice, is available here:
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will confirm arrangements for Friday in due course, should any further changes be necessary.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Yours faithfully,
Mrs E Pole
Headteacher
