Celebrations, smiles and a joyful atmosphere were certainly apparent in Bishop Vaughan Catholic School this morning! Excited chatter filled the school’s main hall in which the pupils collected their results, with both collective and individual results being exceptionally strong. Sixth Form pupils, between them, achieved a record-breaking average points score and excellent A*-C rates that exceeded the Wales average. At individual level, pupils gained impressive qualification portfolios, which included rafts of A* and A grades!

Headteacher Mrs. Emma Pole commented: “We’re absolutely thrilled for the pupils collecting their results today, as they’re seeing that their hard work has truly paid off! The most important consideration for us on any results day at Bishop Vaughan is whether our pupils have fulfilled their potential and received the outcomes that allow them to fulfil their ambitions, whatever those may be. We’re delighted, then, to see that they have indeed done so, and that they will be able to take up the degree courses they’ve set their hearts on, from aerospace engineering and architecture to law, medicine, nursing and economics.”
Chair of Governors, Councillor Sam Pritchard, stated: “We were so proud when our Estyn inspection earlier this year noted that “The school is especially effective at raising the aspirations of pupils from all backgrounds to help them fulfil their potential” and that the school “strives for quality, excellence and achievement in all it does.” Our pupils’ efforts have truly borne that out this morning.”

Aaron Thomas who will be taking up a place at Bath University to read Chemistry, stated “Thank you to all the teachers for their support and helping to make me into such a passionate, motivated and determined student. I am extremely grateful for school helping to shape me into the young person that I am. The skills that I have learnt will be with me for life. For all upcoming students…remember that hard work pays off! Be different, be unique and be yourself!”
Kirsty Davies, who will also be heading to Bath University, and who last year won the prestigious ‘Young Sociologist of the Year’ prize awarded by the British Sociological Association, commented “Thank you for all the support! I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I did without all my teachers.” Both Aaron and Kirsty gained a ‘full house’ of A* grades each and are very proud of their achievements.
Delta Isaac and Carl Offia will be embarking on the path to fulfil their dream of becoming doctors. Both will begin medical studies in the Autumn, and Delta shared words of advice for the school’s younger pupils, saying: “Keep going, your hard work will be rewarded!” and Carl, with characteristic humility, added “All glory goes to God.”
Nia Bibi will be fulfilling her ambitions taking up a place to study in the related field of Pharmacy, reflecting that “I am very grateful for these results. Thank you for letting me achieve my dreams!”
The joy of the day was also encapsulated by a visit from a former student Szymon Kasica who is currently reading Paramedic Science at Keele University. He stated “My time at Bishop Vaughan was really special when I look back. The amount of support and the good memories made with teachers and students mean that my experience was truly one of a kind.”
The Headteacher added: “We’re certainly seeing lots of smiling faces as they open those envelopes! This moment is so special for us as a school: it’s the culmination of our pupils’ school-based studies and the support that’s been invested by so many over the years –their parents, our governors and the teachers they’ve encountered throughout their schooling, these including our own hard-working and truly dedicated staff, as well as those from their primary schools. These results days are when we see our pupils setting out on their paths becoming the young adults they’re meant to be. I know that those collecting results today have very bright futures ahead of them, and that they’ll contribute a great deal to the universities they’ll be attending next term. We’re so very proud of them, and they carry with them our congratulations, our prayers and our best wishes for their next steps.”
