Well, it may have been the summer break, but life here at Bishop Vaughan has been nonetheless very busy! Staff have been preparing for the new academic year, particularly over the last fortnight, and of course these weeks have been filled too with the additional busy-ness of results days!
Thursday 15th August, A-Level results day, was once again a cause for celebration at Bishop Vaughan! Students have excelled in both their A-Level and vocational qualifications, achieving impressive Sixth Form results! You can read about individuals’ achievements here. As I have stated in that news item, we couldn’t be prouder of our Sixth Form pupils and their wonderful achievements.
Once again, the pupils’ results are above the Welsh national averages for A*-A and A*-E grades, this testifying to their hard work and that of their teachers and support staff, yet our pupils are not ‘grades’ or ‘statistics’ to us in any way here at Bishop Vaughan. The results are important because they mean that our pupils have the opportunity to pursue careers, ambitions and paths of their choosing. The grades are passports for the young people in our care – ones which allow them, after leaving us, to travel the journey that they choose for themselves. We are proud to be facilitators of those passports.
As I have also referenced in that news item, we are prouder again of the exceptional young people that our pupils have become, holding such impressive values which they put into action in so many important ways, for example contributing to school life, their families and their communities through leadership roles, voluntary work, charity work, faith-based activities and extra-curricular pursuits.
Just a week later, on Thursday 22nd August, we had a similarly joyful experience as pupils collected their GCSE results! Again, you can read about individuals’ achievements here. We commend all of those who received their results not only on the results themselves, but on the progress that they have made at individual level in each and every one of their subjects over the course of their time with us. We are looking forward to welcoming our Year 11 pupils back in September, as our brand new Sixth Formers! It is in the Sixth Form years, when our pupils have narrowed the focus of their studies to the three-five subjects which they love the most, that we see them flourish further still on the path towards becoming the people they want to be – the very best versions of themselves!
The last year was, as I referenced in the last blog post, a whirlwind of activity – and it certainly ended as one, with our Festival of Culture. I have no doubt that that the forthcoming academic year will prove to be similar, therefore I hope that the summer break has been a most restful one. We look forward to welcoming our pupils back to school on Wednesday 4th September, and we wish all in our school community a healthy, fruitful and enjoyable new academic year!
